The first Blue Slate Retro 30 IN THE WORLD

| April 23, 2012

….well, sorta!

We have a handful of review versions (same as release version, but out there already) with people – but if you win this one, you will be the first person on the planet with a Retro 30 in Blue Slate… This will immediately make you smarter, faster, stronger and a MUCH better photographer, and potentially more gullible.. hehe

Right then – You want to win? It’s Simple!

You have three days from now (So, roughly midnight Thursday April 26th Australian Time) to post below “Why you deserve to be the first person in the known universe to be sent a Retrospective 30 in Blue Slate”

You can make it a video, a photo, a photo story, a poem, a simple note… or a box of cupcakes sent to me office… Oh, whoops.. I mean.. err… JUST BE CREATIVE!

I know it’s tough – sometimes we don’t have time to get creative – but we’re photographers and so on… Use your three days to make a mini-doco on why you should be THE ONE…

Something I do when i don’t have time to get creative – I grab my camera and my 50mm lens, I stay within one block of my home (in any direction) and take SIX photographs – no more, no less – and I use them in a story of some kind… Maybe you could try this?

Whatever – Just make sure you either post your entry below in the comments, or on your own page and link to it below so we get to see it!

Instagram, Twitter? Use the tag #ttp3days

I’m really looking forward to seeing what you lot can come up with – there are some amazingly talented people amongst you!

Good luck…

  • I’m an event photographer and like to use a wide variety of lenses. Would be thrilled to pack my gear in the Slate Blue Retro and sport it like it’s no ones business. πŸ™‚ Taking event photography to another level with the Retro. Boom.

  • (view sad old camera bag at )

eulogy to my sad old camera bag:

    God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
    and whispered,
    “Come to Me”

Through cheerfull events I carried you
for years you were my “bud”
and although i loved you dearly
I set you in the mud.

    A great bag started ripping
hard working strap now at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
ten years now ends your quest.

    (original poem by Frances Coelho)

  • Because this isn’t fooling anyone πŸ™

  • Why you deserve to be the first person in the known universe to be sent a Retrospective 30 in Blue Slate:

Because your Think Tank bag will make me an even better photographer.

  • β€œWhy you deserve to be the first person in the known universe to be sent a Retrospective 30 in Blue Slate”

Because I have the courage to go anywhere in this known universe (and beyond!) to get my Retrospective 30. My photo gear deserves the design of a classic. It must be in Blue Slate to remember everyone the planet from where I am, this little blue marble…

  • Only in my dreams a Think Tank exists
a Florida workshop will be its first trip
Only in my dreams a Think Tank exists
On Spirit air it will take flight guarding the Canons that hide inside

I want the blue slate bag
So I can go hiking with my camera safely packed away,
Its gotta be better than my old sling bag.
So please send me the retro right away.

  • Nick Munroe

    I ThinkTank therefore I am…

    The new retro thirty
    Is so cool its dirty
    The ice cold blue
    Gives no clue
To the gear it hides for you.

    I ThinkTank therefore I am….

  • Ryan Henriksen
    • Carina Thornton

He looks just like my cat. Laziness and all!

  • I say give it to Mark Kalan because if their was anybody who deserve’s it I would choose him, So if you tink of sending it to me please send it to Mark.

  • Darrell

It will look great next to my pinestone retrospective 20 that I use everyday.

  • Because it is about damn time I win something for a change! But, in a nice way: I have a blog and would love to have a better camera, (well, beyond BETTER) that allows me to really show off my creativity.

  • I need a new / good bag because when you’ve got some old bag, your camera falls out and get’s damaged. That is never a good thing. My old Pentax K7 took a fall, and has not been the same. See link for a picture of my poor K7.

  • To win the Blue Slate or not to win the Blue Slate: that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of a clunky, dysfunctional bag
Or to take arms against the tired designs of the past
And by opposing end them? To be pampered by the good folks of
Think Tank: For, not only are they top notch designers, but they are also deeply rooted in the tradition of photojournalism.
And, to that end, my butt kissing here, surely has to count for something.
I deserve the Blue Slate because, by golly, that bag looks great.

  • I would like the Blue Slate Retro to replace some of the photo equipment stolen from my house during three burglaries since I lived here.

  • Gail Mitchell

Because I look good in blue! ;). It makes my baby blues POP!

  • Lauralee

AND…because I just took a second look to be sure of this… I am the only one with my hand in the air, jumping up and down saying “pick me-pick me”!

  • When I’m working at the Cannes Film Festival next month, by the beautiful BLUE Mediterranean on the French Riviera, the hundreds of other photographers on the famous RED carpet will be GREEN with envy!

But don’t worry, I can tell them exactly where they can get their own Blue Slate Retro!

  • Ann Borowski

I bleed THINK TANK!!! Would love to have the bag… I REALLY REALLY need one..

  • Lauralee

I deserve to win it because I have never won one before, because it matches everything I have even my Jeep. It matches my dog too ( he’s brown and white). I would look really awesome carrying it around! I would love to have super powers ( that apparently come with this bag)! And because I think there are lots of really cool posts from super cool people telling you why they should be the first too!

  • I should have it because in my country is very hard to get ThinkTank,
…and this beautiful bag on my back, will be the best advertise for think tank photo in my country,
this blue is much nicer than retina on new ipad!
    Whole world would be bluish!
    Travelling easiest!
My girlfriend will love my much more with this one beside the bed!
This bag is screaming: Take me out to take some pictures!!!
My boss will give me more money for one touch this blue!
I put in beside the gear, a few cans of beer and stay blue cold.
Everyone around me with ThinkTank will stay happy,
…my hangover will dissapear as I look at that blue!
This bag wold be make my life better…like a new car πŸ™‚
And I newer again will have to say: is hard to get ThingTank in my country πŸ˜‰
I have to get it !!

  • ‘caus I’m so blue…
My wife is recovering from two lung cancer surgeries and money for gear is non-existent.

  • When you don’t have a Think Tank Retrospective 30 Blue Slate, you use whatever bag you have around.
When you use whatever bag you have around, people notice you have a camera bag.
When people notice you have a camera bag, scary people follow you.
When scary people follow you, you start to run.
When you start to run, scary people get mad and run after you.
When scary people get mad and run after you, you trip and fall.
When you trip and fall, scary people steal your camera bag.
When scary people steal your camera bag, you wish you had a Think Tank Retrospective 30 Blue Slate.

Don’t let me be that poor guy!

  • Ben

I’m trying to get hold you product like Retro 10, skin 50 etc, etc. Our local shop does not have your product. Well they know Think Tank.
I’m also checking remote shop reached via on-line and no luck!

They even offer importing from US via B&H for me and I though why? I can order from them directly but may be they can save shipping cost by bulk order…

Please please please please please make your product more available in New Zealand. Cause, I really like your retro series and my retro 5 is good for minimalist set-up but it’s getting small for my growing equipment.

I need bigger bag… and it must be Think Tank!

  • Cen Wei

Don’t give up! Try again my luck to get this awesome stuff.

  • The reason why I would like it is because I work hard and I keep working harder on being a better photographer. I dream of going pro and would love to have the gear that would represent me.

  • Jake Scott

cause know one likes to have their camera bag mistaken for a lunch bag or a purse

  • Think Tank’s got a new bag and it’s blue
Sure hope the give it to me and not to you!!!! : )

  • tina

I just picked up photography after a 30 year hiatus…my last camera was a Nikon FE and I am starting from scratch with digital equipment. Retro bag? Well then, I would be a retro chic and we would be well suited! Pick me. pick me!

  • I do not deserve to get anything for free and to be honest I do not think anyone here does. If I was the winner, I would make a review to share this awesome bag (as I am sure it is, since already own a Retro 10 in Pinestone) with the rest of the community, then sell it on ebay and donate the money to “KatharinenhΓΆhe”, a rehab clinic in the blackforest where children recover from cancer. I have been there as a patient many years ago and this really helps Kids and their families to get back on track, to prepare both psychically and physically for a normal life.

This is a promise and I am happy to provide whatever documentation is needed for everybody to have a good feeling about my idea.

  • Tim Sorrells

Oh I get so tired of lugging around a backpack. The bag I use now is nothing more than a should thin padded laptop bag. If I was not a starving photographer, I would get something no one has in my area-your bag! I would be come a walking billboard! Send it to me.

  • Because it will match my blue eyes πŸ™‚

On a more serious note, an old back injury has gotten worse lately, and I can no longer carry my backpack. I am saving for a Think Tank bag with wheels….but in the meantime, it would be nice to have a bag in slate blue to just carry the essentials…along with my (temporary) cane.

  • Michel Beaulieu

    I think Think Thank!

  • Michel Beaulieu

    I think Think Tank!

  • stvc

I hope there is similar design that can put in my D4 with lens attached. Can you come out new model that just make the length to 6.5″??

  • Greg Timmis

I’ve had a tough time these last few years, I’m feeling blue, but as a photographer, I like to turn a negative into a positive!!

  • Anthony Marshall

I wrote a little poem/song for the contest

    Oh Think Tank
If you were a girl I’d buy you a drank
    Your super cool
Everyone who owns you is not a fool
    With that strap
    You don’t look wack
    It keeps me safe
    And doesn’t chafe
    You hold lots of stuff
    And still looks tuff
    I have no fear
    You protect my gear
    I love your blue
    It makes me drool
    Your Inconspicuous
    That’s so delicious
    Oh Think Thank
In my heart your high in rank.

  • Manuel Villalobos

I live in a rainy place, and I ALWAYS have my camera with me, I usually put it in my backpack with my other (wet) stuff, and I’m scared of breaking my Nikon camera! The bag would help me so much, it’s really annoying having to put my 50mm lens in the outside pocket of my backpack and have to worry about not dropping it for the whole day! I think I would be the best person to get it, simply because I don’t simply take photos, photography is my life, and my camera is my baby that freezes time and saves memories! πŸ™‚

  • Charmaine Padilla

What a great bag to use everyday! The perfect bag to take your camera everywhere and I won’t need a purse. Think Tank has such great products.

“Why I deserve to be the first person in the known universe to be sent a Retrospective 30 in Blue Slate”

Well……IΒ΄m from an unknown universe, so it would be a great kind of marketing to get new alien-customers if you send me the Retro 30 in Blue Slate.

    just fun πŸ˜‰

    greets from germany

  • Growing up as the middle child was extremely unbearable . I was never accepted by either by older sister or younger brother. Even our childhood pets..Little Mew the cat and Big Bark the dog, rejected me.

Because I am still suffering deep inside and still being tormented emotionally from the rejection of the early years, I most recently visited a Doctor who specialized in (SPDS) Sibling and Family Pet Denied Syndrome…
Well anyway to get to the point…this Doctor prescribed a camera bag from this company called Think Tank. I dont know..I think this to be a unusual remedy to by problem but I am willing to give it a try.

O..and one more thing..the bag must be blue slate and retro in design.

    Thank you

  • I can’t just be wandering around with any camera bag over my shoulder, people will start talking, I’ll lose my street cred, be reduced to a nobody, forgotten and shunned by society..
Of course i’d never get into that predicament with the stylish and trendy Retro 30!

  • Marius Peter

Well, my Pinestone is allready full, and I still have some gear πŸ™‚

    See ya!

  • Andrew Dierks

Why? Need the best to haul my stuff! Love the retro canvas look and feel, too.

  • Great color. I’d love to own one!

  • because think tank is better than lowepro πŸ˜€

  • Why? Because the only bag I have is a Lowepro, and I want something to protect my new D800 when it arrives.

  • because I win!
